Some rambling from me about seeing Bri Cuoco perform last night!
So I remember when Bri’s EP was released, and I listened to the songs and liked her voice, but then that’s about as far as it went.
But now as a huge fan of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, plus Big Bang Theory with Bri’s sister, when I heard she had a show coming up in LA I decided I had to try to go. I made plans with Mary Ann (YAY fandom buddies!), and then an old roommate that was in town ended up joining us, along with another friend. I listened to Bri’s stuff on facebook again, and really liked it, “October” being my favorite, with “Another Year” close behind.
Anyway, so we get to the bar last night, and almost immediately I spot both Bri and Kaley near the back of the room. Just about the only table still free was front and center, which felt a little awkward, but we took it. And then I noticed that Ashley Clements and Mary Kate Wiles were sitting up front just to our left (and Julia Cho showed up a little later and joined them).
Before Bri sang, one of her guitarists, Joe Gillette, did some songs, and I’d never heard him before (except his duet with Bri on the Bluebird EP), but he was fantastic, and I have a new favorite song thanks to him.
When Bri was up, Kaley came up to be closer to the front, but there wasn’t really anywhere open to sit, so she settled herself on the floor, just a few feet to the right of our table. Someone offered her a seat, but she assured them she was totally fine where she was. (Seriously. Just the night before she won a Critics’ Choice Award, and now she’s sitting on the floor to support her sister. I love her.) Bri sounded amazing, and sang my favorites from her EP, and I’d love to see her again if I get the chance.
After the show I wanted to say hi to Ashley, Mary Kate, and Julia, but I also didn’t want to be an annoyance - and they were there with a couple other people. After a couple minutes of debating I walked up to say hi and told them I was a fan of LBD, and they were all really sweet. I only talked to them for a minute or two, but I told them I run the LBD/HP mash-up blog (Ashley and Mary Kate had both liked or reblogged from it, so I knew they’d seen it), and Mary Kary asked if I’d heard Bri’s music before, so I briefly explained. And they thanked me for saying hi, and then when I got home I tweeted them, and this happened:
We almost left after that, but I really wanted to try to say hi to Bri as well, so I waited a bit for her to finish talking to someone else. I told her I really loved her music, and I’d actually bought her EP earlier that day. She’d mentioned during her set that if you search “Bluebird” on iTunes you have to scroll through a lot of other stuff to find her, but I told her it was the top album result when I’d searched it, which surprised her and made her happy. She thanked me for coming, and I also mentioned really quick how I also loved her on LBD, and that surprised her too, and she asked excitedly, “Did you see Lizzie in the corner?” I told her I did, and I’d said hi, and she said good.
So yeah. Then we left to head home after that. Such a great night! Everyone should definitely check out Bri’s music because AWESOME.
